Have you ever wondered how Netflix knows exactly what you want to watch next time you login?

I feel like whenever I finish a show, it recommends another show that is EXACTLY up my alley. Netflix knows how to get me to sit on my couch and binge watch an entire new series.

Netflix is doing this by implementing AI in it's operations. What you don't know is that Netflix has an algorithm that has your exact tv show genre/movie/favorite actress/ etc in their data log and uses it to provide those recommendations.

The AI uses the data from what you are watching after a certain show ends and uses that to predict other users' future watches.

Do you want to know something crazier?! If there are two viewers using the same account/profile, but are in two different locations, AI can see this data and will recommend different shows/movies per location. The more time you spend watching Netflix, the more data you are providing to Netflix AI to get more efficient recommendations, as well. So, next time you need a good excuse to binging a show in bed, just say you are helping your algorithm!

An article from Simplilearn states, "The annualized cost of Netflix's recommendation engine is close to $1 million. And its only purpose is to enhance the customer's overall satisfaction." It sounds like a great investment, and personally it is working quite well!
